What fees do I need to pay for a UK visa?
Most UK visa applications involve three separate costs: the visa application fee, the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), and optionally a priority processing fee. The application fee varies significantly by visa type and whether you are applying from inside or outside the UK.
What is the Immigration Health Surcharge?
The IHS gives you access to the NHS during your visa period. It is paid upfront as part of your application and is calculated per person per year. As of 2025, the standard rate is £1,035 per year. Students and Youth Mobility applicants pay a reduced rate of £776 per year.
What does priority processing cost?
Priority processing is available for some visa routes, typically costing £500 per applicant. Super Priority — which aims to give a decision by the end of the next working day — costs £800 per applicant where available. Not all visa routes offer priority processing.
Are fees refundable?
Visa application fees and IHS payments are non-refundable if your application is refused. If you withdraw your application before a decision is made, you may be eligible for a partial refund of the application fee, but not the IHS.
Do I pay fees for each person in my family?
Yes. Each applicant — including dependant children — must pay the full application fee and IHS separately. Priority fees also apply per applicant if selected.
